What is Metal?

metal is a material that, when freshly prepared, polished, or fractured, shows a lustrous appearance, and conducts electricity and heat relatively well. Metals can be hammered into thin sheet (malleable), or they can be drawn into wires (ductile). A metal may be a chemical element such as iron; an alloy such as stainless steel; or a molecular compound such as polymeric sulfur nitride.

I guess you could say I was one of the lucky ones…they still had wood and metal shop when I was in school. That’s where you’d find me! Cutting wood and metal, making whatever we could with what we had, and having fun doing it. Seems like some things just never change.

Six Easy Ways To Cut

In many shops Abrasive wheels have replaced steel saws. Thin, abrasive cutoff wheels are capable of sawing through nearly every material known, at rates faster than those of most metal saws.

Abrasive cutoff wheels are made to fit a variety of tools. The Abrasive Chop Saw is simply a larger, benchtop version of the hand-held angle grinder.

bandsaw is a power saw with a long, sharp blade consisting of a continuous band of toothed metal stretched between two or more wheels to cut material. They are used primarily in woodworking, metalworking, and lumbering.

Snips, also known as shears, are hand tools used to cut sheet metal and other light gauge metal wire. There are two main types: tinner’s snips, which are similar to common scissors, and compound-action snips, which use a compound leverage handle system to increase the mechanical advantage.

Similar in nature to the hand-held tin snips, there are many types of sheet-metal shears made to shear all types of sheet metal.

One of the earliest methods known for cutting metal, Oxy-fuel welding and oxy-fuel cutting are processes that use fuel gases and oxygen to weld or cut all types of metals of all thicknesses.
