Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding is a process of arc welding that uses a continuous solid wire electrode heated and fed into the weld pool from a welding gun. The two base materials are heated and melted, causing them to permanently join together. CO2 and argon-CO2 mixtures are known as metal active gas (MAG) processes.
MIG welding can be used on aluminum, stainless steel and steel, and on every thickness from 26-gauge sheet metal to heavy-duty structural plates. MIG welding holds this big advantage over TIG because the wire feed acts not only as an electrode, but also as filler.
