In a garage high in the mountains of Crested Butte, Colorado, as Red Mountain Logworks, Gary and Howard Klifman, started a father/son business, took a risk and adventure, and began building custom hand made log mountain furniture. This was 1995, and the town of Crested Butte was thriving, with the ski resort second home owners and tourists coming in plenty.
They quickly realized that the garage wasn’t going to cut it as a production facility. They went on to purchase the historic Glacier School House. Glacier began in the early 1880s as a stage stop for the mines up Cement Creek and soon became a stop for the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad. With the schoolhouse as a showroom, and a wood working shop behind it, they were ready to meet the increasing demand for their furniture. The demand kept coming, and now with an outdoor line of log furniture branded as Mountain Time Chairs, everywhere you go in Crested Butte, from storefronts, to home owner patios, Mountain Time Chairs log furniture is front and center.
The philosophy of Mountain Time Chairs is a simple one, “Build the best possible hand made mountain furniture out of the best possible materials, allow mother nature to assist, and use only environmentally safe building practices.” When this applies to Colorado log furniture it means that only the best standing dead, fallen, or beetlekill lodgepole pine logs will do. Always cut dry, never harvest green, and you get a log that will withstand weather, never twist or buy Yashtimadhu online warp, and produce a piece of log furniture that will last a lifetime.
Our philosophy is shared by many but practiced by few. Some of the few are those involved in the partnership that has created Log Furniture How-To. Honest, hard working builders, creating artistic log furniture with the highest standards of practice.
Looking to the Future
With corporate logging practices and the Pine Beetle epidemic destroying what healthy acreage we have left in Colorado, Mountain Time Chairs remains unchanged. We believe in staying true to ourselves and our customers, who have come to expect the best.
