On June 23rd, 2012, a fire began in the Waldo Canyon just a few miles west of Colorado Springs. Over the next couple of weeks this wildfire tore a path of destruction directly into town causing many homes to be lost. Today, local artisan Mitchell Dillman is doing his part to turn the Waldo Canyon disaster into unique and functional works of art. Introducing Waldo Canyon Collection – From Disaster to Design.
We’ve got a lot of work to do here and you can rest assured we’re going to do everything we can to get it done…
Like many Colorado Springs residents, Mitchell Dillman, COO and spokesperson for Colorado Rock*N Logs, is doing his part to help those who are affected by the Waldo Canyon Wildfire.
And the Waldo Canyon Collection: From Disaster to Design was born.
Mitchell Dillman, an experienced custom log home builder and carpenter, is now harvesting burnt wood from the Waldo Canyon Wildfire site and turning it into custom designer furniture for Colorado Rock*N Logs.
Colorado Rock*N Logs “Cabin Collection”
Wildfire doesn’t care where you live, for the past few years we’ve been harvesting burnt logs from several Teller County burn scars, creating all sorts of beautiful functional art for everyone to enjoy…
Below is an example of the furniture soon to be a crafted using Waldo Canyon Fire wood. This Furniture has been created from logs harvested off of the Hayman and Nash burn scars in Teller County, Colorado.
Colorado Rock*N Logs will be donating a portion of the proceeds from the “Waldo Canyon Collection” to The Waldo Canyon Firefighters Fund, Colorado Springs Together, and The National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) Firewise Communities Program.
Part of the healing process after tragic events comes from physically working; getting your hands dirty to create something good. Transforming waste into beautiful and useful items is my passion–helping our friends and neighbors heal is our goal…
Everyday Dillman makes the trek up into the Waldo Canyon burn area searching through the burned Ponderosa Pine and Douglas Fir trees to find just the right charred pieces to turn into works of art – custom-made coffee tables, dinner tables, rocking chairs, benches, and even venturing into gazebos, fences and many other wood products.
The Waldo Canyon Collection marries the traditional log-look with a sleek and modern design.
