Setting Up Your Shop
One of the most important things to keep in mind when preparing your shop to complete your first set of iron railings is space. Make sure you not only have ample space on your work table, but be certain you will have room to get around once you start welding the new railings.
When preparing to complete your first iron railing, whether it is just an 8 foot panel or over 800 linear foot of railing, take the time to make a proper jig. The time you take to prepare a jig will be time well spent and it will save you much money in the long run.
Here you see how I have used a simple 1″x4″ jig to assure my railings remain consistent and evenly spaced. Once you have determined which railing components you will be using it is easy to construct a simple jig that will ultimately save you time and can be used again and again.
Okay, so now you know what tools you will need to complete your own decorative iron railings. You know where to order your metal, and you have a good idea how to set up your shop.
